Will practice be held rain or shine?
We will practice rain or shine, with the exception of lightning & thunder. Since our practice facility does not have covered shelter large enough for 100 children, please pick up your child if you see or hear the threat of severe weather. If practice should be cancelled due to weather or other reasons, every effort will be made to notify all parents.
What is "football time"? (AKA - "Lombardi Time)
In order to make the most of practices, the coaches would like the players at the practice field & ready to go at 5:30 p.m. Football time refers to the expectation that the players will be at the field 15 minutes prior to the start of practice. It is recommended to have your player at the practice field by 5:15 p.m.
How will I know when/where to take my child for scrimmages & games?
Your child's coach will give them specific information regarding the times to have your child at the game site depending on their grade level. As a general rule, you should plan to have your child at the game site 1 hour prior to their scheduled game time. Directions to regularly scheduled games can be found on the AAYFL page of our website. Directions to scrimmages will be provided by the coaches as the location changes each year. Often, parents will meet at a designated area (FHS parking lot) & you can join the caravan to the games if you are unsure of the location.
Which jersey should my son wear for games?
As a general rule, black jerseys are for home games & white jerseys are for away games. If your child's coach has different instructions, they will be informed of these instructions at practice.
What if my child needs to miss a practice?
FYF coaches understand if a child needs to miss practice for a medical reason or an appointment. Please notify your child's head coach prior to the absence if at all possible. Head coach information can be found on the Team Pages of our website.
How are player positions selected?
During the first few weeks of practice, the coaches are carefully evaluating the players to determine who would be best suited for offense or defense. The players are given opportunities to learn & try various positions. The coaches try very hard to match players to the position that best suits the player & the needs of the team. The AAYFL has specific rules about weight limits in regards to which players can carry the ball. So, if your child is above a certain weight, they will not be a ball carrier. This is done for safety purposes. If you have concerns about the position your child is playing, please speak with the team head coach.
